You can get home insulation and/or a heat pump on your rates as part of the "Warm Dunedin" programme - get assessed today!
Smart Energy Solutions are proud to be an approved provider in the Warm Dunedin programme which lets you get home insulation and clean heating (heat pump) and pay it off via a voluntary targeted rate on your rates bill over 10 years.
We can visit you, assess your home for insulation and more, provide you with an obligation-free quote and help you with the council application. We want to help make Dunedin homes warmer and healthier, so call us today.
Insulation keeps your home warmer and drier and can lower your power bills. Insulation creates a barrier to reduce heat escaping your home during winter - this can lower your energy bills. Even more importantly a study by the Wellington School of Medicine & Health Sciences* confirmed that people who live in insulated homes are healthier.
How much funding is available?
There is $5,000 of funding support for ratepayers that can be used for home insulation and clean heating available under the programme. The funding for a heat pump or other clean heat source requires that the home is adequately insulated first and all work must be undertaken by an approved provider to the programme. Smart Energy Solutions is the only approved provider able to coordinate both insulation and heat pumps together.
Who is eligible for this funding?
To be eligible for the Warm Dunedin funding you must submit a complete application form and:
- You must be a Dunedin City Council ratepayer for the property to be insulated/heated
- Your home must have been built before 2000
- You must be up to date with payments on your rates and have a good payments record
- You must have a quote from a DCC approved insulation provider (that's us!)
- Agree to pay your rates via direct debit during the period of the voluntary targeted rate support
How is the funding repaid?
The funding is repaid through your regular rates bill and is itemised as a "voluntary targeted rate". To be eligible for the funding you must agree to pay your rates by direct debit for the period of the targeted funding support. The repayments are over a period of 10 years although you can make additional repayments if you wish to pay it off earlier. The interest rate is 8.3% per annum and is reviewed annually. Insulation/heating of $5,000 would have an approximate repayment of $63 per month.
If you sell your house before fully paying off the financial assistance you are legally required to disclose the existence of the targeted rate to potential buyers. Alternatively you can pay the outstanding amount off in full prior to selling.
